RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award
The 2009 shortlist for the UK’s richest architectural prize - the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award - has been announced and we are delighted that two Reiach and Hall projects have been included.
Our award-winning Beatson Institute for Cancer Research for the University of Glasgow and our New Stobhill Hospital for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, now recognised as the UK's 'Best Designed Hospital' 2009, were visited and judged for this prestigious prize.
Out of 28 submissions, from Dumfries & Galloway to Ross-shire, the judges chaired by Professor Andy MacMillan shortlisted 11 projects representing a comprehensive range of building types and including two restoration projects and buildings within both urban and landscape settings.
RIAS President David Dunbar, who serves on the judging panel with Ian Gilzean ARIAS, Professor Kathryn Findlay, Ian Ritchie CBE and Professor Andy MacMillan, is "...confident that we will be making an award which respects the belief of the late Andy Doolan that Scotland's uniqueness is reflected in very special architecture. The superb quality of this year’s submissions justifies the confidence of Scotland's Government which has also given generous support to this, the premier, Scottish architectural prize".
The prize will be presented by Michael Russell, MSP, Minister for Culture, External Affairs and the Constitution.
